Wall Music

April 20, 2009

I’m pretty sure we spend at least half of our days with music on somewhere around us. I know I do. From our alarm clocks and background music on the morning news to radios in our cars and on our iPods we’re essentially surrounded by it. And we have such strong reactions to it. We hate that song, we love this one so much we’ve actually worn out the mp3! We have fond memories of our siblings playing music in their rooms and now refer to it as wall music (at least my sister in law does!) and of course there were school dances.

But for me, those last couple of things were kind of my childhood experience with music along with the top 20 every weekend on the radio.

Bringing this home, the past year and a bit I’ve spent some time with some talented young musicians from Wentworth Music who are going to have an entirely different memory of music. Here are some of my favorites from their most recent concert (Kids Wanna Rock: A Tribute to Bryan Adams).

Pictures are still available for sale online as both prints and digital files and of course, the DVD from the show is now on sale! You can pick one up at the school. Talk about great childhood memories, this DVD is stellar!

Until next time,
Steve

This Saturday night is a big night for some 130 children, youth and adults from the Wentworth Music Education Centre. For some of them it will be their first time on stage, for others it will be one more performance done with excellence.

This is the third installment of the music series at the music centre, the first two being tributes to The Beatles and Queen. Both were unheralded successes and this show will have a lot to live up to.

This time the show is a tribute to KISS. Yes, Gene Simmons and company will be taking the stage in pint sized form but with all the glory of painted faces, leather and bedazzled jackets, boots and pants.

If rehearsals are any indication, this show is going to make you want to “Shout it out LOUD!”

Getting Personal

June 8, 2008

Last week two of my best friends in the world had their 25th anniversary. Their family is my adopted family and I’ll spare the backstory and just say that I love the whole crowd of them a whole ton.

I’m blogging about them here because, well, this is my blog where you keep up with my photography and occasionally personally when they mix. I really do try to keep it all relevant for you and I might stretch it some today but that’s okay.

Myztery at the Mission

May 29, 2008

I was having a coffee with a friend last week and was really enjoying myself. I mean, I had my favorite coffee, my mac and a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time. I was enjoying catching up when in walks two of the most, um, interesting people. I mean that in the nicest way! Really! No! I do!

Carrying on, they sat down across from us and we all quickly introduced ourselves to each other and we had even more fun. Turns out the two of them were stopping in town for a quick show at the Grateful Fed here and were planning on crashing at the Wal-Mart Inn (the parking lot for RV’s) for the weekend. They make up a band called Myztery and are really a cool couple.
