The snow is melting, the birds are singing and the cars are creating this lovely mist resulting in a polka dot camera and sunglasses. Having lived in Calgary for the past 8 years I’d forgotten how early Spring starts here. Or that there is one for that matter! (Sorry Sandi, but it’s true. We have spring here). It’s already warm now and from what I’ve been told and remember there isn’t much danger of another cold snap and blizzard. And it’s only February.

While that might be a bit optimistic, I’ll remind you that I just came back to the Okanagan from Calgary. Enough said? Good. I like it here. I’m glad to be home.

I’m also glad to have this big, empty, grassy, snowy field near work to tramp around in. It would be more pleasant if it wasn’t for the dumpers that think it’s their own personal dump, but it’s a little oasis right across the street from civilization. Look one way and you’re looking into apple orchards, looming hills and a vast, blue sky. Turn around and you find the aforementioned thouroughfare of mist producing traffic and malls. Really, it’s an oasis and a contradiction, but all the same, I’m glad it’s here.

I’m still working on choosing a gallery that I won’t want to replace next week. I’ve done enough of that quite frankly. At any rate, I’ll have something setup by the end of the week that will have larger and more pictures from this series.

It’s never been easy being an entrepreneur with a full time job, but I’m certainly not the only that has/is or will do it. I enjoy the freedom of being my own boss while having the security to know that I’ll have a regular paycheque. It means we can pay our bills and have food on the table. I’m told that’s important.

What it also means is that I don’t often see my friend the sun especially at this time of the year. It gets dark before 5 when I go home and when I do manage to get away for lunch, it’s cloudy and I’m usually on a mission. Believe it or not I’ve still had moving errands to get done after all this time. I think those are done now though. But being off of work after dark also reduces my time with my camera in hand making photographs.

So in light of that, the lack of sun and play photography that is, I’ve decided to get myself out of routine and meet the sun again. Well, for as much as it will be out that is. What I’m doing (and I’ve actually already started) is making a point of getting out of the office as much as I can, and taking my camera with me. It’s a simple series called Lunch and hopefully I’ll carry it on for at least a month if not longer.

For the immediate future I’ll have a couple or three clickable photos here, but in time I’ll put up a gallery with all of the images.

So, thus begins my series. Lunch. I hope you enjoy keeping up with it as much as I really enjoy being outside.
